This is an exciting opportunity for a CAE and Process Optimisation Engineer to join a utility-scale renewable energy company in a fulltime, permanent capacity based in Melbourne, VIC. 

You will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and running software models to simulate, configure, and optimise the operation of power plants. The role combines exceptional engineering and with commercial acumen to create solutions matched to our customers’ needs.

Key Responsibilities:
Systems Engineering - 70% of the position
• Apply software development skills to create, test and enhance next-generation system models.
• Optimisation of plant performance through application of established and emerging solutions such as Finite Difference Methods, Linear Programming, and Non-Linear problem solving.
• Analyse complex data sets to derive meaningful insights and inform optimisation strategies. Use data analysis to continuously improve model accuracy and system performance.
• Apply technical knowledge of thermodynamics and processes to improve model accuracy and functionality.
• Continuously improve system models through calibration against operational data and implementation of design changes.
• Integrate cost-modelling and revenue streams to support cost optimisation.

Commercial - 30% of the position
• Support commercial business development by testing and modifying models, designs and operating strategies in response to customer and market drivers.
• Effectively communicate technical information to stakeholders and clients.
• Provide modelling support for product development and commercial strategies.

Required Skills / Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, Mechatronics or equivalent qualification with exposure to mechanical, thermodynamics and process engineering.
• Software development / coding in Python, MATLAB and/or other languages.
• Proficient in data visualisation, interpretation and communication.

Desirable Skills:
• Application of AI, Big Data Analytics, AWS, Statistics, software development best practices.
• Knowledge/experience of energy markets.
• FEA and/or CFD modelling capability/experience.
• Thermodynamics or Process design knowledge or experience, Process modelling experience (e.g. HYSYS).
• Electrical / power engineering knowledge or experience.
• Experience in a customer-facing role (commercial/sales experience)
