Secondary Design EngineerMelbourneJD Ross Energy have partnered with an engineering consultancy who specialise in providing solutions across renewables projects. They are looking for a Secondary Design Engineer to work on utility scale wind, solar and BESS projects across Australia.
Due to continued success, our client is looking for a motivated and driven Secondary Design & Protection Engineer to join their rapidly growing team. You will be involved in the full project life-cycle from concept design and detailed design through to commissioning.
As a Secondary Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and review of secondary systems for high voltage substations, including protection, control, and SCADA systems. The company are very flexible, they offer work from home opportuntiies (2-3 days a week) and excellent career progression.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and review single-line diagrams, functional schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Conduct technical studies, fault analysis, and relay settings for protection systems
- Provide mentorship to junior engineers, knowledge sharing and contributing to the technical leadership across the secondary design team
- Collaborate with external stakeholders including clients and contractors as well as internal collaboration across the business.
- Adhere to industry standards
About You- 5+ years’ experience in HV substation secondary and protection system design
- Experience in AutoCAD, DigSILENT
- Knowledge of SCADA systems and control systems
- Strong knowledge of protection relay principles, schemes, and testing.
- Proficiency in technical report writing
- A degree in Electrical Engineering
- Ability to design protection, control and metering SLDs for substations
- Ability to work with relays (IEDs)
- Proficiency in panel layouts, secondary equipment schedules, protection logic diagrams, schematics and cable schedule design
- Efficiency in AC and DC auxiliary power supply sizing
- Previous experience mentoring junior engineers is highly desirable
- Proven experience communicating with external and internal stakeholders
- Ability to collaborate effectively with primary design, civil, structural, project and construction teams
Technical skills: - Ability to design protection, control and metering SLDs for substations and electrical balance of plant across utility scale renewables projects
- Develop building layout design for switch rooms and control buildings
- Perform maximum demand calculation for AC and DC auxiliary power supply sizing
- Familiarity with IEC61850 for protection and control systems (highly desirable)
