BESS Commissioning Engineer (Australia, Remote & On-Site)
We are seeking a BESS Commissioning Engineer to join a growing Site Management & Commissioning team within a leading company in the energy sector. This role will be responsible for overseeing and executing the commissioning of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), including battery modules, inverters, transformers, servers, and control cabinets. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of electrical engineering, project work, and construction principles.
 
Role Overview:
Location: Australia
(Remote with extensive site travel)
Reporting to:
Senior Manager, Site Management & Commissioning
Travel:
Intensive travel required, with extended periods on-site during commissioning phases
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the commissioning of BESS and related equipment
  • Coordinate technical project materials and testing protocols
  • Ensure compliance with market rules, utility requirements, and contractual obligations
  • Communicate commissioning tasks and test procedures to clients
  • Maintain and manage commissioning schedules and performance test procedures
  • Ensure EHS compliance and implement safe commissioning practices
  • Document test results and compile quality documentation for client handover
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to power systems, controls, and SCADA systems
  • Drive continuous improvement in problem-solving and commissioning processes
 
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years in renewable energy, energy storage, or utility-scale solar
  • Knowledge of lithium-ion batteries, power systems, and grid integration
  • Familiarity with codes and standards (AS/NZ, NEC, UL, IEC, etc.)
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding electrical schematics, CAD drawings, and control systems
  • Experience with multimeters, oscilloscopes, protection relays, BMS, and SCADA systems
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex engineering concepts
